Hi! I’m Alisoun, my name rhymes with “spoon”. It’s old English (like my dad, who gave it to me), and is from a 13th century poem.
Fun fact: my first career was as a dance and circus performer (yes, Cirque du Soleil). My other career is as an outdoor educator and kayak guide and instructor. In the summer months I lead instructional courses and tours in the spectacular wild beauty of remote locations in BC’s west coast waters, and in the spring and fall I teach young people how to camp, and facilitate personal growth and self discovery through leadership experiences.
I’m interested in writing, education, and in arts and culture. I’m enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies through the Open Learning program at TRU (3rd year), building on my communication skills, knowledge of the natural world, and leadership. I’m still figuring out what I want to focus on, but I’m thinking about maybe teaching or journalism.
I’ve recently moved back to Kamloops (my hometown), and immediately got involved in the campus community radio station CFBX. It was an awesome learning experience. I got to do my own show, and learn about how to use broadcast equipment, and how to conduct and record professional interviews.
I am stoked to be stretching my skills further by bringing you multi-media arts and culture content directed through the lens of the experience and interests of students in universities all around BC. Universities are a melting pot of interests, and cultures, and BC is my home province, so I’m excited to be bringing that all together and sharing it with you all!
